Plant polysaccharides have been mainly studied for immunomodulation and the prevention of cancer as biological response modifier. Thus, we investigated that polysaccharide from Agaricus blazei Murill changed the level of peripheral leukocyte and it showed host resistance on the injection of Staphylococcus aureus and mouse sarcoma 180 cells. At first, polysaccharide from Agericus blazes Murill(0, 5, 10 and 20§·/§¸) was single i.p. administered to mice. The number of leukocyte and the population of neutrophil showed a dose-dependent changes in polysaccharide- administered mice. Polysaccharide from Agaricus blazes Murill(0, 6, 10 and 20§·/§¸) was single intraperitoneally administered to mice before the injection of S aureus and observed the survived of mice after the injection of S aureus. In polysaccharide administered mice, they were survived and their survival on S aureus was dose-dependently increased. The polysaccharide suppressed the growth of sarcorma 180 cell slightly and keep their survival for more long time.
In conclusion, our studies suggested that polysaccharide from Agaricus blazes Murill elevated antibacterial activity and antitumor activity with the enhencement of the number of leukocyte.
